Clubs will be sanctioned if they fail to adhere to Covid-19 protocols - Prosper Harrison Addo

Ghana Premier League clubs have been cautioned to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols are face the wrath of the Ghana Football Association.

Hearts of Oak are the first club to incur the wrath of the FA after breaching the Covid-19 rules in their game against Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The club failed to ensure 25 per cent of the required supporters will be at the stadium.

According to Prosper Harrison Addo who is the General Secretary of the club says clubs will be sanctioned should they fail to comply with protocols.

According to him, the FA is not ready to lose the 25 per cent spectatorship given to them by the government.

"There will be more sanctions in the coming days because we won't allow any take the 25% of spectatorship granted us for granted," he told Asempa FM.

"The GFA will crack the whip on any club that violates the COVID-19 protocols at our various stadia.

"We won't sit back and watch our 25% spectatorship taken away from us, the rules are clear so the clubs should follow them," he added.," he added.

Meanwhile, President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure stakeholders abide by the laid down rules to ensure safety during football games amid the spread of Covid-19.

While addressing the nation, President Akufo-Addo said these bodies should ensure the safety of spectators.

“The National Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association should ensure compliance to the 25% stadium capacity with spectators respecting the social distancing rule and wearing of masks”.
