Head coach for the Black Stars B team, Maxwell Konadu has noted that Ghana played well in the finals of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations tournament whiles admitting that Senegal deserved to win on the day.

Ghana missed out on winning a third consecutive WAFU trophy on Sunday night after suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Teranga Lions on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes plus extra time.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Maxwell Konadu has indicated that the Black Stars did not play bad even though he admits they faced tougher and better opposition in the host nation.

The gaffer explained, “The match wasn't bad, it was a tough and very tactical match which was very good. The level was very high we knew the Senegalese have a young and talented team.

“We also have a good squad and we knew the match was going to be difficult. Initially, we sat back to soak the pressure and try to play counter-attack but it couldn't work.

“Black Stars B effort is not good enough to win the game”.

Coach Konadu further gave insight into his side’s technical approach to the game.

“Tactically, the black Stars B did everything right. We were able to neutralize our opponent offensive players that help my team a lot.

“In the second half of the game we didn't want to change a lot of things but I think they brought in a fresh leg inside but we kept our shape before we conceded but we were about to reply to them after we concede the goal that changed the face of the game.

“So tactically we also needed to bring in the fresh leg to try and score in the stipulated time because we didn't want the game to go for a penalty but it didn't work for black Stars B”, he said.
