Collymore: Liverpool are leaderless just like Arsenal. And it\'s down to Henderson

Published on: 24 October 2017

Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has blasted Reds captain Jordan Henderson for not being a strong enough leader.

After a confidence boosting 7-0 win over Maribor midweek, Jurgen Klopp's side backed it up with an insipid display against Tottenham. The 4-1 loss saw them drop to ninth on the Premier League table.

Arsenal have been criticised for many years for their apparent lack of leadership, but Collymore believes the trend is now prevalent at Anfield and he has placed the blame on Henderson.

"So often we talk about Arsenal lacking leaders. But looking at Liverpool, arguably, they are as just rudderless as the Gunners," wrote Collymore in the Mirror.

"They too have lot of nice boys — the type you'd be happy for your daughter to bring home — but nobody who is a Steven Gerrard or a Roy Keane, with that spite about them to make sure they dominate games.

"A lot of that goes down to Jordan Henderson. I have the utmost respect for him as a professional footballer. He is a model pro. A good man. Solid, dependable, a very good club ambassador.

"But he is not a Liverpool Football Club captain."
