Chelsea claimed a fine 4-2 win over Southampton on Tuesday night to boost their Premier League title pursuit and manager Conte decided to give outgoing captain Terry a run out in front of the adoring Stamford Bridge faithful for the final five minutes of the game.

Following the clash, Conte took time out to praise Terry for his contribution towards Chelsea's fine campaign despite the defender not featuring too many times and added that the departure of the club legend will be a big blow for the Blues next season.

The Italian boss said: “John is a really important player for us and he's doing a great job this season. For sure it's not easy for him because he's not playing a lot.

“I want to say thanks to John but he knows my admiration for him. He's helping me and the team, every single player.

“He's always available to accept every one of my decisions. When you have this type of player you must be pleased. It will be a great loss next season to lose a player like him.'
