Contract talks between Icardi and Inter continue to stall

Inter and captain Mauro Icardi remain far apart over a new contract, with the Argentine reportedly asking for €9 million a season.

Talks between the two sides have been ongoing for weeks, with the Nerazzurri holding firm on their offer of €7m a campaign.

The new contract would also remove the €110m release clause currently in Icardi’s deal, but Corriere della Sera reports an agreement isn’t close to being ratified.

Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara is pushing for the release clause to be raised but not removed, along with demanding €9m a season.

Those figures would double the Argentine’s current salary and make him one of Serie A’s highest paid players.

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping a close eye on talks, as it’s believed they could make a summer push for the Argentine by activating his release clause should it remain in his contract.

Icardi has netted nine goals in 16 appearances for Inter in Serie A this season.
