Control the key for Emery

Unai Emery says it is vital his Arsenal side started taking control of matches as they go in search of their first win against West Ham on Saturday.

The Emery era at the Emirates Stadium has yet to get off the ground, the Gunners starting their season with back-to-back losses to Manchester City and Chelsea.

Despite the campaign being in the very early stages and the Spaniard having only had a matter of weeks to work with his new players, Emery's style of play has come in for criticism from some ex-players.

The problems from the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign still remain at Arsenal, who continue to look good going forward but have major issues keeping the opposition out at the other end.

The former Paris Saint-Germain coach feels the Gunners' biggest problem in the games they have played so far has been a lack of control, admitting they allowed City and Chelsea to dictate matters.

He wants to put that right when West Ham make the trip across London on Saturday, insisting they must start dominating their opponents.

"My idea is control," said the Spaniard. "Control in the game - but the opposition want the same thing.

"I know we need intensity in every moment in the games. This control is to not let the opposition do their work, their play.

"For me, we didn't have the control in our first two matches. Saturday is another match, tactically it is different. I want to have more control to find the win in this match."

Emery went on to reveal that captain Laurent Koscielny is stepping up his recovery from the Achilles injury he suffered at the end of last season.

The Gunners are hopeful the French defender will be back in action by November.

Koscielny will be watching from the stands on Saturday for the clash with West Ham, who are 8/1 to pick up their first win of the season.

Arsenal are 1/3, with the draw 4/1.
