Former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah beleives the current playing body of the Black Stars can end the country's trophyless jinx.

The West African country last won their Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in 1982 in Lybia.

The team have come close in 1992, 2010 and 2015 to ending the trophy drought but has failed to lift the trophy.

The current playing body were touted as the youngest team to play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The team despite their early exit were praised for their performance.

According to Appiah, who led the Black Stars to qualify for its maiden World Cup appearance in 2006 in Germany believes the current team can end the country's trophy drought.

"We for a young crop of players around and I believe if things are done right, we will be able to win a trophy," he told Sunyani-based Sompa FM.

Ghana are on the verge of securing qualification for the 2024 Afcon that has been scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

The Black Stars sit top of Group E with eight points and will wrap up their qualification games against Madagascar and the Central African Republic in June later this year.
