D'AVERSA: “IN SPORTING TERMS, IT WILL BE A BATTLE”

Published on: 04 October 2019

Ahead of the match between Spal and Parma at 15:00 CEST tomorrow in Ferrara, Roberto D’Aversa spoke to the press today at Collecchio.

"In sporting terms, it will be a battle and we need to be ready for 95 minutes of ‘war’ and the result is as important for us as it is for them. We have to think that the result is more important for us than it is for them. We’re going into the game after some positive results but this can’t affect our approach. When you win, you have to think about how you did it and our DNA comes from the work we do every day and the effort the guys have been applying since the first day of pre-season has been surprising. We’re can’t think that we’ve won our last two, we need to fight in every game to stay up."

“Laurini and Darmian will not take part in the pitch, Matteo hasn’t recovered and he’ll be back after the international break. Everyone else is in the squad. In that part of the pitch, I have five players and I’ll make evaluations. Iacoponi has already played at right-back so I’m calm about that. A change of system? I don’t think we have a number five to play with a back three but regardless of the system, it’s important to play with the right attitude. We’ve changed different aspects of our tactics in different games and what matters is getting positive results."

“On a physical level, we’re doing well but then it’s the head that matters. Those who’ve played less like Cornelius had an excellent game on a physical level. I’m not worried about having tough games coming up, recovering the mental energy is what matters along with the attitude from the team and game management. We have to be aware that they’ll start strongly, they’re good at pressing high so we’ll need to think about their strengths and weaknesses while looking to give everything to bring home the result.”

“From the first match, these guys have been looking to get results regardless of who the opposition is. In the week, we think about their characteristics. Sassuolo are good on the ball, Torino are physically strong. Even against Juve, we put in a good performance. This mentality comes from training and the team has done well in this regard. Sometimes, results don’t show this but we’re better off being disappointed at results and not regret things when we didn’t give everything."

“They’ll go out to win, they’re good at testing you up from and they’re compact at the back. It’s on us to think about doing well ourselves when we have the ball and the want to press. We’ll have to be tidy technically. When you play a good pressing side, you don’t want to give them reasons to get brave. We need to stay balanced and patient on the ball and then be ruthless. A result tomorrow would be really important for us tomorrow."

“We’re all happy for Gagliolo, it’s a great honour. Everyone who starts at a young age dreams of making it and playing international football. Through determination and hard work, anything can happen. Cornelius is an important player, it’s always nice to have selection headaches up front because you can start in different ways and make changes during games, in defence we don’t have this issue so much but I’d prefer to have it as it also improves the quality in training. While he’s played less, Andreas has always given 100%."
