David Accam not keen on Chicago Fire contract renewal

The management of Chicago Fire have expressed disappointment with the reluctance of Ghanaian winger DAvid Accam to extend his contract.

Chicago Fire since August have been trying to conclude negotiations with Accam for an extension before he enters into the last year of his contract next season.

The speedster joined Chicago Fire from Swedish side Helsingborg in 2015, and his impressive performances has seen him record back-to-back Most Valuable Player of the Season and Golden boot awards at the club.

He scored 10 goals in 24 league appearances in his first season and nine goals in same number of matches in the recently-ended campaign.

“We engaged in discussions on a contract extension beginning in August,” Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez said.

“His representative got married in September, so we decided to take a break and allow his representative to enjoy that. We then decided to push everything off until the end of the season.

“At the end of September when [Accam's representative] returned from his wedding, we were still in the playoff hunt.

“In October, I didn’t want discussions to get in the way of David’s Fifa appointment where he went in early October and where he’ll be going in two weeks.

"I have scheduled to speak to his agent this week again. We’ll see where those discussions are.”

Accam recently revealed his desire to return to Europe, fueling links with French side Nantes.
