David Moyes Bemoans Sunderland Mistakes During 3-1 Defeat on His Return to Old Trafford

Sunderland manager David Moyes lamented the mistakes made by his side during their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Moyes returned to the Theatre of Dreams for the first time since his sacking from the Old Trafford hotseat in April 2014, but goals from Daley Blind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan saw the Scot leave his return without anything to show for his troubles.

A rare victory at Old Trafford for Manchester United with David Moyes in the dugout.

"I don't believe we deserved to lose 3-1 today, but we're at fault as we gave away two outrageous goals," a clearly frustratedMoyes informedSAFSee, the Black Cats'official website.

"There were a couple of passes and bad decisions in the last ten minutes of the game that made the result worse for us," the former Everton manager continued.

"We did very well up until then. Yes, we were a goal behind, but we stuck at it and we were having a go," he stated, regarding a first half where Sunderland were arguably the better and more dangerous side, despite going in 1-0 down at half time.

"Away from home, we've not been playing that badly, with the exception of Swansea, (where Sunderland lost 3-0)and I thought we played well again today," Moyes claimed, clearly keen to emphasise that he feels the Sunderland players are still on side with his methods, despite finding themselves in the Premier League relegation zone.

"We were playing a strong Manchester United side and we showed resilience and stuck at the task in hand," Moyes declared, following a game he had extra motivation to perform in following his unceremonioussacking two-and-a-half-years ago, having failed to live up to the lofty expectations set by fans used to the relentless success seen under his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho, Moyes, Giggs, Ferguson and Atkinson all at Old Trafford today. Five of last six United managers. Just need LVG to turn up.

"It's just frustrating the mistakes that we did make and how we didn't take any of our chances when we had them," he concluded, slightly overstating his side's case, given that openings for Victor Anichebe and Fabio Borini were all his side created for all their spirit and endeavour while the game was alive - the Italian's late stunner was nothing more than a consolation.
