Sunderland managerDavid Moyes has insisted that he has a future England number one in Jordan Pickford, after admitting that he turned down the chance to sign Manchester City's keeper Joe Hart in the summer.

Hart was deemed surplus to requirements by new Citizens boss Pep Guardiola following the signing of Claudio Bravo from Barcelona in August, and a number of Premier League clubs were put on high alert over the future of thecurrent Three Lions starting shot stopper, including the Black Cats.

However, despite two-time Premier League winnerHart deciding on a loanmove to Serie A side Torino, Moyes has admittedthat he turned down the chance to bring the experienced keeper to the Stadium of Light, after being impressed with Pickford.

England have called up Aaron Cresswell and Jordan Pickford for their World Cup qualifier against Scotland.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Moyes explained:"When I arrived, Vito Mannone was probably the number oneon experience but his injury meant we needed to turn to Jordan and he has stood up to all we've asked of him.

I could have brought in Joe Hart, we thought he would have been ideal for us, but I had to think of Jordan's progression too and he hasn't let us down.

The former Manchester United and Real Sociedad boss also suggested that the Washington-born Pickford could soon take the place of Hart in the England set-up, if he continues to progress at Sunderland.

"Hopefully he [Pickford]will become England's No 1 for the future, I don't see why not.He has the attributes and if he keeps his attitude of working hard, he won't go far wrong.

After picking up their first win of the season away to Bournemouth, Moyes' men will be hoping to continue their revival with a positive result against fellow table-footersHull City, after the international break.
