David Moyes Snaps as He Is Reminded of Sunderland's Habit of Sacking Managers in March

Sunderland have a habit of sacking managers in March, when they often find themselves in a Premier Leaguerelegation battle, and the new manager invariably saves them, as reported by theDaily Mail.

Sunderland find themselves bottom of the table, having suffered another defeat, this time to Manchester City on Sunday, which, inevitably, for any club, would put the manager's position in doubt.

When asked about it, Moyes said that: "If they only get a boost off a new manager. If that's the way it is then they should be doing it now, shouldn't they? That's nothing to do with the manager. If that's the case then that's wrong.

"I'd have thought the players here had seen too many managers to want to be linked with any more.I'd have thought they'd say, Look, we've had enough changes here, we need to start looking a little bit inwardly rather than at the manager'."

Relegation would have grave consequences for Sunderland, who have a debt level of £140m and are being funded by an American businessman who wants out. As many as 50 staff members will be made redundant in the coming months, even before the prospect of relegation has been factored in.

Moyes knows this, and said that: "It's hard on the people here, I know. We know we're responsible because maybe other people could lose their jobs if we don't stay up.I don't want to go down.

"Of course, behind the scenes, we might be having to look at what would happen if things change, but while we're still in with a big shout we're not quite there yet.

"We want to get over the first hurdle and say right, we can take a breath of air and say let's go again. At the moment we're still gasping for air.

"We'd like to be safe and making our plans for next year and saying, 'How do we get away from this?'. It is the first step to try and break the cycle this club has been in for too long now.'

Sunderland remain six points from safety having lost 2-0 toManchester City at the Stadium of Lighton Sunday.
