Dede Ayew’s absence in West Ham's EFL Cup loss explained.

Ghana deputy captain Andre Ayew was missing for West Ham's 4-1 loss last night at Manchester United because he has been under an intense training regime which will continue throughout the week.

The club’s record signing was fully expected to be involved at Old Trafford last night ( a good game for him to miss of course as things turned out) but instead he was left at home to continue a seriously tough training programme.

Manager Slaven Bilic believes he remains short of peak fitness and our best source inside the club made it clear to us that the player is undergoing “intense training all week.”

We were told that he was still considered to be below the peak levels required and that he is expected to be 100 per cent fit for the match against Arsenal at the weekend.

The £20 million signing looked to be approaching his best against United in Saturday’s League fixture when he came on as a sub and looks a certain starter for the game against the North London outfit.
