Ghana and Deportivo Alaves midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has expressed his eagerness to win a trophy with the Black Stars before announcing his retirement from international duty.

Most senior players in the current Black Stars squad are set to retire from the national team after Ghana failed to progress past the Round of 16 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, the 29-year-old says he is not thinking about retirement any time soon, but that when he does hang up his boots he wants to do so with a major international medal in his collection.

“I can’t complete my time with the Black Stars without winning something.

“I need to win something before I stop.

Wakaso explains that the current crop must leave a winning culture and legacy behind that the next generation can learn from.

“To be honest there are young ones coming up and we have to make way for them to also continue but we must set an example for them to come and continue,” he revealed on Face to Face on Citi TV.
