Derby Defeat Means Pep Guardiola is on Longest Winless Streak of His Entire Career - All the Stats

Published on: 26 October 2016

Manchester City's 1-0 defeat to rivals United on Wednesday night was more than just a blow in their hunt for silverware - the loss marked the sixth game in a row that City have failed to win in all competitions.

Never in Pep Guardiola's wildly successful career has he gone on such a run, with City's current slump surpassing the five-game run without tasting victoryback in 2009 with Barcelona.

6 - Pep Guardiola has gone six games without a win for the first time in his managerial career. Slump.

Draws against Celtic, Everton and Southampton have been peppered between defeats to Tottenham, Barcelona and now United - and it's not just his own high standards that Guardiola's failing to live up to.

The winless run is also the club's worst in eight years - in which time they've reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, won two Premier League titles, a pair of League Cups and one FA Cup. It is - in short - Not Good.

Despite City's lightning start to the season saw them win 10 games in a row before the current downturn in form, but there are signs that the problems at the Etihad run deeper than a poor trot of form.

Six games with no win is the longest winless run of Pep Guardiola's management career, and Man City's longest winless run for 8 years.

Wednesday saw the Premier League leaders fall to a 1-0 deficit for the sixth game in a row - failing to keep a clean sheet for the 10th time in 11 domestic games this season. It's impossible to count on the fitness of the club's best defender, and the back line isn't likely to get better any time soon.

A number of writers on 90min this summer - myself and the excellentJamie Spenceramong them - warned against backing City for the title on the basis of their horribly under-stocked back line. In context, the only surprise is that the honeymoon took this long to turn sour.
