Di Francesco: I expect Roma response at AC Milan

Roma’s players have been warned by coach Eusebio Di Francesco that he expects them to bounce back from their draw with Atalanta on Monday, when they travel to AC Milan.

It is the San Siro next up for the Giallorossi, in the wake of fighting back from 3-1 down to salvage a point in a 3-3 draw with the Rossoneri’s Lombardy neighbours.

The former Sassuolo tactician wants to see an improvement, while also addressing the boos his side received in their second game of the season after going two goals behind.

“I hope to see a great performance against AC Milan. I would like to see a great response from the players when we play this game,” Di Francesco told the assembled media at Trigoria.

“The question about the chants from the supporters is one that should go to the fans. This year we have four points so far and some teams have even less than that, so there must be context to what we talk about.

“We should also speak with balance, without necessarily attacking anyone, and I must protect the players and bring Roma as high as possible. Time will tell what our future holds.”

The coach also shared his views on the departure of Kevin Strootman, who has ended his time with the Lupi to try a new challenge in Ligue 1 with Marseille.

“I spoke with the player and he told me that he wanted a change and to try a new experience. When I said the other day that Roma comes first, I meant that I only want players who have the desire to wear the shirt and give everything,” he added.

“As long as he was here, he gave everything until the end, as happened with Edin Dzeko in January, but when a player asks for a change, I won’t hold them back because the main thing is having a player who wants to stay.”
