The former Chelsea player Didier Drogba talked to reporters on Saturday, after submitting his proposal to run for the Ivorian FA presidency. He initially had setbacks with regards to getting endorsements from the relevant local football bodies.

“Its no secret that our football is going badly, and that is why with my team, we are committed to contributing to the rebirth of Ivorian Football,” Drogba told reporters.

“If my goal was not driven by a deep desire to give back to Ivorian Football all that it has given me, to contribute to the development of football in my country, and if God was not in this candidacy, it would be difficult to be in front of you today”

The Ivorian legend, in his manifesto, outlined innovative plans which will see all stakeholders benefit from his project.

Highlights from his manifesto

  • Ligue 1 clubs: 150 million-plus one bus per club.
  • Ligue 2 clubs: 50 million-plus one bus per club.
  • Division 3 clubs: 30 million-plus one bus per club.
  • A reorganization of Ivorian Football: regional, divisional, district championships plus training centers.
  • Insurance for stakeholders.
  • Negotiations with hotel and catering establishments for better support for teams during travels plus construction of sports infrastructure.
