The physiotherapist of a Division Two Club in the Western Region, WO1 Daniel Anderson, faces assault charges after allegedly headbutting an Assistant Referee during a Division One League match against Bis Paradise.

On March 29, 2024, Assistant Referee Francis Ankrah collapsed after Anderson’s reported attack following a goal against Dolphins FC, the club where Anderson works.

Ankrah was hospitalized at Effia Nkwanta Hospital and later discharged. The incident was reported to Western Region Police, and investigations are ongoing.

Anderson was apprehended, charged, and released on bail after being cautioned. He and witnesses, including Ankrah, are assisting in investigations.

The Western Regional Football Association condemned Anderson’s actions and promised disciplinary measures. The case was referred to the Attorney General for advice.

The Western Regional Naval Command, Anderson’s unit, plans disciplinary action. The Ghana Football Association’s Safety and Security Committee is monitoring the situation, aiming to combat hooliganism and stamp it out of its football system.
