United went behind in the fourth minute when Laurent Ciman put the Impact who were without Ivorian legend Didier Drogba ahead.

The Impact doubled their advantage three minutes before the break when defender Matteo Mancosu scored the first of his brace.

After the break, Montreal Impact went 4-0 up after Mancosu scored his second and laid on an assist for Ignacio Piatti.

DC United attempted a late fightback but goals by Lamar Neagle and Taylor Kemp were not enough.

Lloyd Sam expressed disappointment with his side's fragile defense for letting-in an early hoal.

Lloyd Sam said: “We’re one goal behind right away in a win-or-go-home game, it creates a bit of anxiety. “It wasn’t the time to let in a sloppy goal.”
