Don Bortey: I almost joined Kotoko - Former Hearts star recounts

Former Hearts of Oak talisman, Bernard Don Bortey has disclosed that he almost joined Asante Kotoko during his playing days.

Regarded as one of the best players to have ever graced the Ghanaian local scene, the forward spent most of his days with the Phobians.

Between 2001 and 2010, he made a named for himself in the Ghana Premier League where he helped Hearts of Oak to win a number of trophies.

Speaking to Hot FM in an interview today, Bernard Don Bortey has revealed that he at a point edged very close to switching camps to Asante Kotoko.

The forward explained, “It was Hearts of oak management the likes of the late president Atta mills Former Minister of sports ET mensah,Dr harry sawyerr etc that block me for playing for KOTOKO I was ready to play for KOTOKO”.

He continued “Mr Herbert mensah just gave me enticement fee of 500 old Ghana cedis to convince me to play for KOTOKO but I was ready to join the team because I was in Kumasi WITH KWABENA YEBOAH, George AMOAKO,DR AMOAH BOSSOMPEM AND CHAIRMAN HEBERT MENSAH ETC. Kotoko captured me and I was ready to play for the fabulous team BUT Accra Hearts of oak grabbed Me when I came to accra to do outdoring of my new baby”.

Don Bortey went on to dazzle for Hearts of Oak before leaving as a club legend after his service.
