Dortmund Boss Thomas Tuchel Hails His Team's 'Extraordinary' Repsonse During Draw With Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel praised his team's reactionfollowing their 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim on Friday evening.

In what was a lively first half, Dortmund found themselves trailing 2-1 by the 20th minute and to compound their misery, they had Marco Reus dismissed moments before the interval.

However, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang brought Tuchel's side level, minutes after the restart and despite being at a numerical disadvantage, Dortmund were able to hold out for a hard earned point.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Tuchel admitted that whilst everything had gone wrong for his team, he was delighted with their reaction to the difficult circumstances.

He toldESPN:"We were aware that it would be a very difficult away game.

"And everything that could go wrong did go wrong for us. I am obviously talking about what happened before the 2-1 and about Reus' dismissal.

"And then [Ousmane] Dembele's substitution was another disadvantage. He has suffered some strong bruises after taking two blows to his knee.

"That made things even more complicated than they already were. But we reacted to everything that happened in an extraordinary way. In my opinion, we deserved a draw after such an unfortunate game.

"We took more shots than Hoffenheim. We were determined at half-time that we would not leave without at least one point.

"We wanted to give everything to fight for at least a draw and I think that was clear for everyone to see. The team deserves a major compliment for that."

Whilst Tuchel appeared happy with the result, the draw does little for Dortmund's rapidly fading title aspirations, as they sit seven points off joint leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig - a gap that both teams can extend should they win their respective fixtures this weekend.
