Dortmund & Juventus Bosses Leading Candidates for Arsenal Post as Wenger Exit Rumours Intensify

Thomas Tuchel has joined Massimiliano Allegri as the main contender to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.

Reports on Friday morning had suggested that Allegri was the number one choice to take over from Wenger in the summer, but the Mail has now claimed that Tuchel also features highly on the Gunners' list of possible replacements for the 67-year-old.

Wenger's contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer but, even though there is a two-year extension sat on the table waiting to be signed, the Frenchman is looking increasingly likely to end his 21-year association with Arsenal after the 2016/17 campaign is finished.

Tuchel has been in charge of Borussia Dortmund since July 2015, and led the Bundesliga club to second place in last season's final league standings.

The 43-year-old has been admired from afar by Arsenal's hierarchy, and the German was linked with the managerial post in North London earlier this season after reportedly falling out with Dortmund's board over his waning influence at the club.

Despite the Mail insisting that Tuchel is now a serious contender for the Arsenal role, however, the Independent carried quotes on Saturday, from Tuchel himself, as the Dortmund boss sought to distance himself from the position.

He said: You know more than me. I can't say anything about that because I don't know anything about it. I'm on a contract with Dortmund and I'm happy here.

Allegri, meanwhile, is believed to have held talks with Juventus' board about leaving the club 12 months earlier than expected - rumours that are said to have piqued Arsenal's interest in the Italian.

The 49-year-old has led to two of their four successive Scudetto triumphs since he took charge in the summer of 2014, and has seen his name touted as Wenger's successor in the past few days.

Arsene Wenger leaving Arsenal will feel like a family death to me.

Wenger is rumoured to have performed a dramatic U-turn on putting pen-to-paper on his new deal at Arsenal, after successive Premier League losses led to widespread criticism of the ex-Monaco man from Gunners fans and the media alike.

Arsenal's slim hopes of picking up a first league title since 2004 slipped away with defeats to Watford and Chelsea last week, and Wenger is now considering whether he has the desire to carry on in the role he has held since 1996.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has claimed that Wenger has already informed him that he has no plans to stay at the Emirates next term, and admitted that he fears Wenger is "coming to the end" of his time in England.

He said: "I get the impression that that's it. He looks tired. You just feel that he looks winded. I feel that he will go at the end of the season.

"He actually mentioned that he is coming to the end. I have never heard him say that before."

Arsenal lie fourth in the Premier League table ahead of their clash with Hull Cityon Saturday.
