Special Advisor on health at the presidency, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has explained that the increase in the number of active Coronavirus cases in the country informed the decision to direct the Ghana Premier League to start with closed-door matches.

Initially, President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that the stadium could be filled to 25% capacity when the new football season starts.

However, after a spike in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country, the MoYS has today indicated that games will be played behind closed doors as they took a cue from CAF.

Speaking to Ashh FM on the latest decision, Dr. Nsiah Asare has emphasized that it is for the best for everyone to ensure the spread of the deadly virus is curbed.

“Initially, the cases were going down and we all were happy but for about three weeks now the cases have been increasing especially Accra and Kumasi so that's what influences our decision that all matches should be played behind close doors,” the Special Advisor on health at the presidency said.

Dr. Asare concluded, “I will plead with all supporters and clubs to accord with us and monitor the situation for some time and they should remember that we are doing this for prevention sake.”
