Women football has chalked a new success as 36 women teams confirmed their participation in the 2020 Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when the draw was held in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday 4 December 2019.

Ghana saw the largest number of participating teams with 24 in the 2018 Women AFCON qualifiers, which means twelve more teams will take part in the 2020 edition of the women tournament.

The first round of qualifiers takes place in April 2020, with the qualification series reaching an end in June 2020. The final tournament is set to be staged between 23 November and 1 December 2020.

For the first time, twelve teams will take part in the finals of the 12th edition of the tournament instead of eight teams as it was the case before.

South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Morocco, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire received a bye to the second round.

Meanwhile, draws for African Qualifiers for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup and the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup were also conducted at the same day.
