Drogba makes Lampard claim

Published on: 23 June 2019

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba claims Frank Lampard is in talks with the Blues over becoming the club's next manager.

Lampard has been strongly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, following Maurizio Sarri's decision to move on to pastures new with Serie A champions Juventus.

Having guided Derby County to the Championship playoff final in his first year in charge at Pride Park, Lampard has seen his stock rise in recent months.

Former Chelsea team-mate, Drogba, has now also chipped in, and when speaking on his Instagram account, claimed talks are ongoing and has urged Blues supporters to relax as a deal will happen.

When asked during the live broadcast, who will be the best Chelsea boss, the former Ivory Coast striker replied: "The one who is currently in talks to get the job, Frank Lampard."

The Blues are currently in the midst of a two-window transfer ban and it's hoped Lampard's knowledge of the west London outfit and their academy system will help the club come through a difficult time with restrictions in the market.

Chelsea are 25/1 to win the Premier League next season, while reigning champions Manchester City are 4/6 to retain their title.
