Dropping points at home cost us Ghana Premier league title – Berekum Chelsea captain Zakaria Fuseini

Published on: 11 July 2024

Berekum Chelsea skipper Zakaria Fuseini has explained why his outfit failed to win the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title.

The highly-rated defender was pivotal for Berekum Chelsea, who finished third in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League campaign.

He made 31 appearances and was rock-solid at the back for the Bibires.

Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Black Meteors defender disclosed his sides failure to secure maximum points at home in certain games cost them the league title.

“Our objective was to win the league but it didn’t materialize. At a point, we realized we cannot win the league so we decided as a team to finish in the top-4 and it happened”

“I’m not disappointed missing out on the Ghana Premier league title. We lost the league title because of our inability to win certain home games. Samartex won the league because they were able to pick more points at home. We lost two games and drew one in the course of the season and I think that cost us the title”

The 26-year-old defender began his playing career with Berekum Chelsea and has since featured for the club till date.

During the 2021/22 season, the former Black Meteors defenders was farmed out on loan to Spanish lower-tier club, San Fernando CD.

Following the expiration of his loan deal, the Ghanaian defender made a return to join parent club, Chelsea.
