Dyche praises "realistic" Heaton

Published on: 18 October 2018

Sean Dyche has praised keeper Tom Heaton and says he could still have a future at Turf Moor.

The 32-year-old is one of three England goalkeepers at Burnley but has had to settle for a place on the bench so far this season with new signing Joe Hart being Dyche's preferred choice in goal.

Whatever needs to be worked out, we will find a way of working it out.

That has led to Heaton speculating that he might need to leave the club in the January transfer window as he looks to find regular first-team football.

However, he retains the support of his manager who admits that Heaton has been unlucky so far this campaign.

Burnley travel to champions Manchester City on Saturday and in a press conference ahead of the game Dyche spoke about Heaton's future.

He said of the keeper's recent comments: "I thought he spoke very well because he's a fantastic professional. That's why he's club captain. He's just being realistic. Me and Tom go back a long way – he was my first signing here.

"We've got an open dialogue. He's been very unfortunate. Whatever needs to be worked out, we will find a way of working it out. He knows he's got a future here, it's just about what is right for him."

Burnley are 33/1 to win on Saturday with City 1/14 and the draw 10/1.

Having had a poor start to the new season, having also had Europa League football to contend with, the Clarets have revived in recent weeks and went into the international break 12th in the table, having not lost in the league since mid-September.

Assuming Hart is picked on Saturday he will be facing his old club, having left City permanently in the summer but Dyche insists the keeper has nothing to prove to Pep Guardiola on Saturday, adding: "If he's got any point to prove, it would only be to himself – to continue to show what a top class goalie he is."

Burnley are 8/1 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table.
