E-ticketing contributing to low fan attendance at Ghana Premier League games - Samartex Business Dev't Manager

Paul Anyaba, the Business Development Manager of FC Samartex 1996, has expressed concern over the impact of electronic ticketing on the Ghana Premier League's attendance.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Anyaba stated that the hasty implementation of e-ticketing has affected fan turnout at league venues due to poor education.

He acknowledged the benefits of e-ticketing but called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure that the new system runs concurrently with the traditional means of purchasing tickets until football fans grow comfortable with the new system.

Anyaba pointed out that the GFA could learn from the re-denomination of the Ghana Cedi, which was introduced some years ago.

The new currency was introduced gradually, and the old and new currencies ran side by side until people were comfortable with the new notes.

"E-ticketing is very good because the importance of e-ticketing far outweighs the demerits. However, we cannot take away the fact that e-ticketing is contributing to the low attendance.

"We are a people that react very slowly to change, so my position is we should have engaged in vigorous education, and the e-ticketing should have run side by side with the traditional ticketing for some time. E-ticketing is good, but I am against how it was hastily implemented," Anyaba said.
