Eagles Boss Sam Allardyce Confirms Christian Benteke Was Substituted Against Swansea Due to Injury

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that striker Christian Benteke was substituted at half-time during the 2-1 defeat to Swansea due to a suspected shoulder injury.

The Belgian landed awkwardly following a collision with Swans goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and having complained that his team should have been awarded a penalty for the incident, Allardyce's misery appears to have been compounded after he confirmed, via theMail, that Benteke has suspected shoulder ligament damage.

Having picked up the injury around the 30-minute mark, the Belgium international continued to play for therest of the first half but was replaced by Fraizer Campbell during the interval.

He is now set for a scan on Wednesday where the extent of the injury will likely be determined and the forward is now a major doubt for Palace's FA cup tie at the weekend, which sees Allardyce come up against his former employers, Bolton Wanderers.

With Wilfried Zaha now heading off to Gabon to represent the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations tournament, the problems are mounting up for the Eagles' new boss, who remains without a win since taking over the team just before Christmas.

Defeat to Swansea drags Palace further into the relegation scrap and they are now only a point above the drop zone after going six games without a win.

There is at least some good news for Allardyce though as loan signingLoic Remy may be available to make his debut on Saturday against Bolton. The Frenchman joined the Eagles last summer on a season-long loan from Chelsea but has so far failed to put on the famous blue and red shirt, after picking up a long-term groin injury before the start of the season.
