Elated Thomas Agyepong insists its always been his dream to play at the AFCON

Black Stars and Manchester City attacker, Thomas Agyepong has revealed that it has always been his dream to represent his country at a major tournament, whiles indicating that he is excited to be part of the national team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Agyepong who spent last season on loan with Scottish side Hibernian is a former captain of the Ghana u-17 team. Though he has played for the Black Stars in some qualifiers as well as some friendly matches, this will be his first major tournament where he will have the opportunity to play a key role.

He is part of the final 23-man squad of the Black Stars that is currently holding camp in Dubai and will be operating from the flanks for the team if he gets the nod to start in Coach Kwesi Appiah’s team at the 2019 AFCON.

Speaking in an interview with Joy FM ahead of the start of the continental showdown, Thomas Agyepong who describes the tournament as a very big stage opines that he is excited to have the opportunity to be part.

“It is really big. To be honest I think this is my major tournament in my football career giving the fact that am young as well and I know what is at stake. A lot of expectations on us but for me, this is also exciting”, he said.

He added, “For me I have always wanted to play in such a tournament because there have been some great names in Ghana’s history that have played in this tournament so as a young player to be given that opportunity from the management team and the whole Ghanaians to have that faith in me, I think that should give me the confidence to go out and then give out my best”.

The 2019 AFCON will start on Friday, June 21 and end on Friday, July 19, 2019.
