Eleven Wonders CEO Commey backs government decision to extend ban on sporting activities

Published on: 01 June 2020

Techiman Eleven Wonders Chief Executive Officer Albert Commey has backed the government's decision to extend the ban on all sporting activities until at least July 31, 2020.

On Sunday, President Nana Akufo-Addo-Addo announced the directive during his 10th address on the measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus.

All football leagues in the country have been halted since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic as part of measures to help curb the spread of the disease.

According to the experienced football administrator, although everyone is ready for the league to restart, the virus is unpredictable and dangerous.

"Coronavirus is a very dangerous pandemic and you can’t blame President Akufo-Addo for the measures put in place because he is the one who is briefed from all the regions on what is really happening. So you have no choice than to accept it whether you like it or not,"  he told Happy FM.

"As football people, our wish is to restart the season as soon as possible to offset some of the financial burden as a result of this health crisis but God knows best and we should all play our role in helping to curtail the spread of the virus."

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said it will wait until at least June 30 to make a decision on the future of the league.

The 2019/20 Premier League was at its match week 15 stage when it was halted with Aduana Stars leading the table with 28 points.
