England-born Jerome Opoku gets first Black Stars call-up for USA and Mexico friendlies

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced handing a late call-up to England-born Jerome Opoku on Wednesday, October 11, ahead of the friendlies against the United States and Mexico.

The 24-year-old centre-back has been drafted in to replace injured Alexander Djiku.

Currently on loan at İstanbul Başakşehir in Turkey from Portuguese side Arouca, the former Fulham defender adds his prowess to the team.

This season, he has featured in four league games for both Basaksehir and Arouca, scoring a goal for the Turkish club.

Jerome Opoku is set to link up with the Black Stars squad on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in the United States.

Ghana is poised to take on Mexico on Saturday, October 14, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by a match against the United States of America on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Lambeth-born will hope to make his debut in the two games.
