Enyimba extend gap on top of Premier League

Enyimba increased to five points their lead at the top of the Nigeria league after captain Chinedu Udoji produced the match winner in a 2-1 home win over a resolute Shooting Stars on Sunday.

Enyimba thus remained top of the league table with 61 points from 33 games.

Closest rivals Warri Wolves were forced to a 1-1 draw by hosts Enugu Rangers and now have 56 points as both Wikki Tourists and Sunshine Stars faltered in their chase of the championship.

Musa Najere gave Enyimba the lead in the 14th minute when he headed in Ugwu Uwadiegwu's corner.

3SC equalised in the 56th minute through Ajani Ibrahim.

Then skipper Udoji powered home in a header in the 75th minute off Ezekiel Bassey's cross for the winner.

Both sides had other chances to get on the scoreboard.

In the 40th minute, Abubakar Adamu in goal for Shooting Stars stopped Nzube Anaezeba's effort.

Nine minutes to end the game, Enyimba goalkeeper Femi Thomas parried Sibi Gwar's 30-yard free kick for a corner.
