Europa League: Ghanaian midfielder Elvis Sakyi helps Gzira United to beat Hadjuk Split 3-1

Ghanaian International Elvis Sakyi enjoyed a good day at the office on Thursday night as he helped his Maltese side Gzira United FC to post a 3-1 victory over Croatian giant Hadjuk Split.

The young midfielder was given a taste in the qualifying series of the Europa League last week when his team lost 2-0 at home to Hadjuk Split in the first leg.

He impressed when he was introduced into that match and that convinced his manager to give him a starting role in the second leg yesterday.

At the end of the day, Sakyi managed to help his side emerge as 3-1 winners, taking the aggregate score to 3-3.

Gzira United has now qualified to the next qualifying round of the Europa League courtesy the away goal rule.

Gzira United FC has now set up a date with Latvian side Ventspils in the next round of the Europa League qualification.

The Ghanaian is in contention to get another start if he convinces the technical team at training.

Elvis Sakyi joined the Maltese club this summer following different stints with Galatasaray SK and Istanbul Maltepespor, all in Turkey.
