Even if we defeated Hearts we would have had issues with the referee – Kotoko assistant coach Orlando Wellington

The assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, Orlando Wellington has stressed that even if the team had won the Super Clash on Sunday, they wouldn’t have been satisfied with the performance of the match referee.

In a post-match interview, the coach said he believes the referee was not fair in his officiating of the match.

The coach argues that the foul awarded to Hearts of Oak prior to the team scoring was a bad call.

In addition, he makes the case that Konadu Yiadom scored an offside goal to lead Hearts of Oak to victory.

“First of all, it’s the referee. If you watched the game, you’ll see the decisions he made; the foul that gave Hearts the free-kick opportunity wasn’t a foul, and the goal was offside,” coach Orlando Wellington said after the Super Clash.

He added, “We had several chances to score but we couldn’t take them. The referee and players had their own part to play; as a referee, you have to be fair. Even if we had won, we would still talk about the performance of the referee.”

Courtesy of the win on Sunday, Hearts of Oak have been crowned champions of the 2023 President’s Cup.

The team also earned three points for beating Asante Kotoko in Week 20 of the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
