Everton Boss Ronald Koeman Reveals What He Told Romelu Lukaku Before Goal Against Leicester

Everton produced a terrific performance on Boxing Day to overcome Premier League champions Leicester City 2-0.

Goals from Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku gave Everton a much needed win, lifting the Toffees up to seventh after their 1-0 defeat in the Merseyside derby in their previous match. Striker Lukaku was getting through plenty of work during the first-half, something which manager Ronaldo Koeman duly picked up on.

Speaking after the game, Koeman revealed how he was partly to thank after Lukaku bagged an injury time strike.

"I think today we showed a good team performance," the 53-year-old said.

When speaking about Lukaku's worth ethic, Koeman revealed:"I think already in the first-half in my opinion there was the message to him in half-timethat I said 'OK sometimes you run too much, stay in front, stay between the two centre-backs and in crosses you need to be in the box' because he's that striker who can score out of crosses and then you need to be in the box.

"OK, he was waiting and when he gets a chance he will score."

The goal was Lukaku's 10th Premier League strike of the season, keeping him hot on the trail of the likes of Diego Costa, Alexis Sanchez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the goalscoring charts.

Everton next take on Hull City on Friday.
