Everton Enforcer James McCarthy Heads Toffees January Clear Out as Various Suitors Circle

Everton's midfield engine man, James McCarthy, is heading for the Goodison Park exit upon the opening of the January transfer window - along with a cohort of other Toffees - after manager Ronald Koeman made the player available for transfer, according to a report in theMirror.

The Republic of Ireland international, who signed for the club from Wigan in 2013 for a colossal £13m, after being swayed by former chairman Bill Kenwright, is unsettled at the club and is ready to leave.

A host of Premier League clubs are interested in the enforcer, with Crystal Palace, West Brom and Tottenham Hotspur amongst the parties, while Championship side Aston Villa are also credited with an interest.

The Eagleswere close to signing McCarthy during the summer transfer window - and partnering him with former Wigan teammate James McArthur -but were unable to complete a deal, while Spurs are hopeful of offloading the underwhelming Moussa Sissoko and bringing in the Irishman.

Perhaps critically, the Toffees retain an interest in Sissoko, despite the player shunning talks to move to White Hart Lane in the summer, which left a bitter taste in many fans' mouths. This could have a bearing if and when Spurs' interest materialises.

Also reportedly heading the Goodison exodus are first-teamersTom Cleverley, Phil Jagielka, Aaron Lennon, Gerard Deulofeu, Bryan Oviedo, Muhamed Besic and Joel Robles.
