Everton midfield general Idrissa Gana Gueye has expressed his excitement about fighting for his place in the starting lineup.

Speaking to Everton's official website, via Sky Sports, Gueye admits: There's really good quality, tough competition but good competition which is good for the team.

Gueye recently returned from the African Cup of Nations as his Senegal side were dumped out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage by eventual winners Cameroon.

During his time away from England, Everton signed French international Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United, a player who excelled under Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

The Senegalese man describes him as A really good signing for us. I don't know if the gaffer will put me on the pitch and play with him or with another player.

Tom Davies is another player who has delivered since Gueye's absence. The youngster emerged from the Everton academy and he has electrified the Goodison Park faithful with his energy, desire and quality on the ball.

Gueye was back in the squad for last weekend's clash against Bournemouth but didn't see any game time as Schneiderlin started alongside Gareth Barry and James McCarthy whilst Davies was the preferred substitute. It's not a problem, we are a team and everybody deserves to play, states Gueye.
