Everton set to battle Schalke over Baba Rahman

Everton have made an enquiry regarding the signing of Chelsea defender Baba Rahman but he is set to go back on loan at Schalke, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old was sidelined back in January whilst playing for Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations after suffering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee.

He has since made a full recovery and is expected to be match fit for August.

The left-back joined Chelsea in 2015 for £14 million but has struggled for game time under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, with the latter favouring Marcos Alonso.

The Toffees are now interested in bringing the defender to Goodison Park but face competition from Schalke.

Everton are expected to splash the cash this summer and Ronald Koeman may well be considering a long-term successor to veteran left-back Leighton Baines.

Rahman went on loan at the German side last year but his time was cut short in January as a result of his injury.

The Bundesliga club have remained keen to have him back for next season despite interests from Premier League suitors.

It is believed that the former FC Augsburg defender will favour a return to Schalke on loan and Everton will need to look elsewhere for a left-back.
