Ghana forward, Inaki Williams, has opened up about his family’s journey from Ghana to Spain and their determination to provide the best life for their parents after enduring early hardships.
In an interview with the BBC, Inaki revealed the sacrifices his parents made when they migrated to Spain three decades ago in pursuit of a better future.
Recalling their arduous journey, which saw his parents trekking through the Sahara desert to reach Melilla, Inaki expressed gratitude for their perseverance and determination.
“We had to suffer a lot,” he stated, emphasizing the challenges they faced in establishing themselves in a new country. However, through hard work and resilience, they have now achieved a comfortable life.
Inaki, who was born in the Basque region of Spain, and his younger brother Nico Williams, who followed eight years later, both rose through the ranks to represent Athletic Club.
Despite their success on the football field, the brothers remain grounded and are committed to repaying their parents for their sacrifices.
“Thanks to God we are all here together now, living a really good life. My parents are getting to watch their sons prosper, which is why they came here. Everything we do is for our parents.”
