Now playing in Turkey with Istanbul Başakşehir, Adebayor touched on his family drama when speaking with So Foot.

"When your family is against you and you work to make it out of misery, it's hard," he said. "I always told my little brothers that we were being manipulated by our families.

"Often, I change my number so that my family does not contact me. They do not call for news, but to ask me for money. This was the case after I fooled them in Tottenham: they called me during my scan and wondered if I could afford the boy's school. Asking me news of my health, first!"

He continued: "Football, in three or four years, is over. On the other hand, your name remains, as well as the person. I kept that for so many years. How many times have I had the idea of committing suicide ... I am disgusted to have been there, but I am relieved to have played my part."
