Ex-Arsenal Wonderkid Denilson Hits Rock Bottom With Recent Setback

Published on: 22 November 2016

Former Arsenal midfielder Denilson, once banded 'Arsenal's future' by legend Patrick Viera has now had his loan move terminated by Brazilian side Cruzeiro after making just two appearances for them in 2016.

The 28-year-old was once part of a midfield with Cesc Fabregas and was tipped to be the next big thing in Brazil, but failed to live up to his potential.

In 2010 Viera said, "We need to give him more time to develop as a player, but he can be one of the best players at the club." Despite having a decent spell in the Gunners midfield it never excelled for Premier League side.

After stating he wanted to leave the London club after a loan move to Sau Paulo in 2013, he made the move permanent, but failed to make an impact in the UAE Pro League with Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi, and now enters the long list of youth prospects that never filled their potential.

Denilson, now back in Abu Dhabi, played 96 games for Arsenal and scored six goals in the process. He played six times for the Brazil Under-17 side, but never made it into the higher ranks in Brazil and the footballing career of Denilson looks like to be coming to an end.
