Former Black Queens skipper Grace Adjoa Bayor has suggested that the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament must be held every three years instead of four.

The 42-year-old who won the African Women’s Player of the Year award in 2003 featured at three World Cup tournament for Ghana before calling it a quit.

In an interview with Koforidua-based Aben FM, Adjoa Bayor called for a review of the current four-year cycle of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

According to her, switching the women’s cup from four to three years will help women footballers.

“The 4 years women’s world cup mantra is very bad. This is because, as a lady you will gain weight and might also get pregnant. To me, it will be more appropriate if the years for the world cup is reduced to three (3) years. If world cup for men is four years, women should be three”

She also expressed her worry about Ghana’s failure to secure qualification to the 2022 Women’s Cup of Nations slated for next year.

“It’s worrying the Black Queens has been evicted from the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations tournament. After defeat to Nigeria in the first leg, we should have overturned the scoreline but unfortunately it didn’t happen” she said.
