Ex-Ghana FA veep George Afriyie offers advice to Black Stars new coach Chris Hughton

Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has advised Black Stars new coach Chris Hughton to invite players based on merit.

Hughton was named Ghana coach on Sunday and replaces Otto Addo as the Black Stars head coach.

Afriyie, who was management team member during the appointment of Avram Grant under the previous administration, expressed Hughton will extend invitation to players who became the center of gravity.

“We have to agree that Chris [Hughton] wasn’t the head coach. He was just an advisor. With his position, he could advise but if the head coach doesn’t go with the advice there is little he can do. It is a new king new law. I know Chris [Hughton] that from his track record in the EPL, he would extend invitations to those players who became the center of gravity,” he told Ghana Sports Online.

Black Stars will be looking to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and many Ghanaians will be hoping that Hughton can lead the team to success by winning next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
