Ex-Ghana International Augustine Arhinful advises Black Starlets to eschew complacency

Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful has advised the Black Starlets team to avoid complacency going forward at the FIFA under-17 World Cup.

The Black Starlets progressed to the round of 16 after topping group A and are scheduled to face Niger, who finished as one of the best third placed teams at the tournament on Wednesday.

Ghana defeated India 4-0 on Thursday following an improved performance from the first two games but the former Black Stars player insists the Black Starlets will have to eschew complacency if they are to go far.

“We should not be complacent, beating India 4-0 is good but it’s nothing new, so they should not get it into their heads but forge ahead and make sure we can eliminate our next opponents,” he told Happy FM.

“If we win we are progressing to the quarter finals and that is where you face the big boys of the tournament,”

“Yesterday I was watching one of the matches and I mean the way the play was organized I realized the tournament will be a tough one,”

“Some of the countries are very good, England for instance has a very good team, France has a good team, even Iran and Iraq are a very good side so we should congratulate our bays and motivate them,” he concluded.

The Black Starlets are two times champions of the FIFA Under-17 world Cup but have not won it in the last two decades.

Ghana returned to the competition after a decade absence.
