Ex-Kotoko star Godwin Ablordey bemoans lack of quality players in Ghana Premier League

Former Kotoko midfielder Godwin Ablordey has said that the Ghana Premier League lack quality players to make it more competitive.

Some Ghanaians over the years have said that their sudden love for foreign football to the neglect of the domestic top-flight is because the local leagues are not competitive.

And according to Ablordey, Premier League clubs cannot boast of players who have exceptional qualities that can convince football loving fans to troop to the stadium during match days.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Ablordey, who is currently the assistant coach of King Faisal bemoaned lack of quality players in the domestic top-flight and was of the opinion that none of the current Kotoko players would made their squad during their playing days.

“They (Kotoko) have no special quality players like they used to have in the past such as Stephen Oduro, Jordan, and the rest.

I won't blame the current management for recruiting these average players because the league itself lacks quality. Most of the players playing in the other clubs are average ones unlike during our time when most of the players were in the senior national teams”

“If Kotoko really wants to recruit quality, they need to scout outside the shores of Ghana and that is costly. The fans however must support the team financially by attending matches so management can recruit the kind of quality they (supporters) are craving for”

“I'm sorry to say this, but none of the current Kotoko crop of players would have gotten a place in our team during our playing days”
