Former Manchester United defender Viv Anderson has urged Wayne Rooney to move to the US.

Rooney has two years left on his £250,000-a-week deal, but is expected to leave United this summer.

Anderson told The Sun: “The money is one thing, but at Wayne's age playing is crucial.

“His attitude has been great – but not playing will have grated on him.

“If you are used to winning big things, being captain of your country and your club, you hate sitting on the bench.

“Somebody who has had such a career should not be sitting there hoping to get a few minutes on the pitch.

“The time has come. If it were me I'd head for China or the USA."
