The 30-year old who joined the club as a free agent after leaving Watford signed one-year deal, which will keep him on the south-east coast until the summer of 2022.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker made an impressive 24 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls, netting six times finishing as the second top goal scorer, behind Neil Maupay.

Welbeck turned out 142 times for the Red Devils, scoring 29 times in those games.

However, he was reduced to a bit-part player, and eventually moved to rivals Arsenal in September 2014.

Welbeck became something of a cult hero at the Emirates stadium but was plagued by injuries, making 126 appearances across five years in North London but many of them from the bench.
