Former West Ham United defender Rio Ferdinand has reportedlyoffered to join the Hammers as a defensive coach, in an attempt to help former teammate andunder fire Irons boss, Slaven Bilic, turn fortunes around at the Olympic Stadium.

West Ham sit just one point and one place above the Premier League relegation zone, and theDaily Mailreport that the former England captain has been in touch with his former employers about a coaching role.

"I don't like this feeling."

Ferdinand started his career with the Hammers, where he played alongside Bilic, but the report suggests it remains to be seen how open the Croat would be to accepting the former Manchester United man's offer for help.

The role would be Ferdinand's first coaching role since his retirement in 2015, and Bilic may decide that any reinforcements would need to have a greater level of experience to be of any great use.

Also, Ferdinand has a number of other ventures on the go, not least his punditry career and business portfolio, and Bilic may have his reservations about how much time the 81-time England cap can commit to helping his side reverse their current slump.

Bilic, who enjoyed a superb debut Premier League season, has found himself under increasing pressure due to his side's poor start to this campaign, was typically forthright with his comments after West Ham were thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal on Saturday evening.

"I feel very brave as a person and as a manager," Bilic said, after a hat-trick from Alexis Sanchez put his side to the sword. "I want to change it and I think that we, I can change it.

"I am very disappointed, frustrated and humiliated," he continued. "I want to say sorry to the fans and the club and everyone connected with West Ham, because [the result and performance] was very bad."
