Ex-Spurs Star Baffled Over Omission of Full-Back Duo in Jamie Carragher's Team of Season Selection

Former Tottenham Hotspur footballer Graham Roberts has expressed his surpriseat Jamie Carragher's failure to include a single Spurs player in his 2016/17 Team of the Season so far.

Roberts took to his official Twitter account to question Carragher's selection after the Sky Sports pundit did not choose any of Tottenham's current players in his best eleven of the campaign to date.

The Liverpool legend opted to name Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand at right-back and left-back respectively in his starting lineup - choices that left Roberts baffled as to why Tottenham pair Danny Rose and Kyle Walker had been overlooked.

Rose and Walker have been regular starters in Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs side this term, with the 26-year-olds missing10 and five matches respectively.

Rose sat out seven weeks' worth of action with a hamstring injury earlier in the season, while Walker was rested during Tottenham's ill-fated EFL Cup run, as well as three of their Champions League group games.

Rose's hamstring strain aside, the pair have been virtual ever presents in Spurs' Premier League lineup throughout 2016/17, with the White Hart Lane side currently sitting fifth in the standings with 33 points from 17 matches to date.

Southampton, meanwhile, find themselves two places and nine points off the Lilywhites in seventh - no doubt one of Roberts' queries as to why Bertrand was featured over Rose - while Azpilicueta has plied his trade at centre-back for much of the season under Antonio Conte at Chelsea as the Blues have maintained a tight grip on first place in the league table.

Quizzed over his inclusion of Azpilicueta, Carragher told Sky's Monday Night Football programme: "I think Azpilicueta is the best defender in the league and if there was any full-back in the league I'd want in my team it would be Azpilicueta. You know what you are getting week in and week out."

Fellow Sky Sports pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville opted to include Rose over Bertrand in his own Team of the Season selection but, like Carragher, also decided that Azpilicueta should be picked at right-back over any of the Premier League's other right sided full-backs.
